Yashika Kant is a student of English literature at St. Stephen’s College, Delhi. She has also worked with various companies as a creative and content writer. She loves writing poems! Below are two poems by her for your perusal. Enjoy those!

The Sky

Do you just stare at the limitless sky and sigh?

Intrigued by the mysteries locked up so high?

Do you feel your fluttering chest easing as you watch the moon?

Does not the cool, night breeze throw you into a sweet swoon?

The twinkling of the stars resemble the twinkle of the eyes,

Does not its shine add to the wonder much spice?

Do you just stare at the limitless sky and sigh?

Intrigued by the mysteries locked up so high?

Even the expansive ocean shares its hue with the sky,

Dances as the colours change to black from blue up high.

The twilight sings a song of its own and so does the morn,

But nothing beats the beauty of darkness, though scorned.

Do you just stare at the limitless sky and sigh?

Intrigued by the mysteries locked up so high?

Laden with buzz of crickets and wind’s growl,

The hiss of snakes and the wolves’ howl,

Evoking of the dangerous and the strong,

Its chronicles are tattering, shivering and long.

Do you just stare at the limitless sky and sigh?

Intrigued by the mysteries locked up so high?

Dance with Eternity

My Ballerina sighs as I pick her up and hold her in the air,

Her tresses gently dance on my face, oh that lovely hair!

I stare at her face and its luminous glow,

Like a moon shining in the velvet sky or like the white river that flows.

I hold her still while my heart beats so fast,

Oh, how I wish this moment to forever last.

Those lips that curl in a smile are now fixed hard,

Her eyes are transfixed but not on me, her bard.

As she slowly alights in my arms like a waterfall cascading down,

Like a helpless figure in the ocean of mystery, I drown.

It is now I who sighs a sigh,

As my captivated heart meets those eyes!

My lips curl in a smile while she frowns,

Peevish at the flow of unbridled emotions before the renown.

I pull her close as she gracefully arches her arm and leg,

She spans a universe to which to belong, I beg.

To the music of life my Ballerina dances and hikes,

Adding new moves and tunes with every strike.

As I encircle and breathe with her in the close affinity,

It is in that transient moment that I embrace infinity.
