Aging

Old age creeping up on me,

so many limitations,

elaborate preparations

for going outside

where I huddle in the park

in jacket and sweater,

while passersby stroll past

in t-shirts and shorts.

Trial Separation

The leaves are still green

aesthetically refusing

to give in to the coming cold,

even as my feeble skin

loses its color

in the absence of the sun,

reminding me brusquely

of my linkage to nature,

so easily forgotten

by so many of us

overwhelmed by concrete,

dangerously enthralled

by electronic devices,

cultural substitute

for outdoor activities.

Vector

Culture spreads like plague

across America

weakening the fiber

of a liberal arts country

festering with more poets

than scientists.
